Subterranean Pop - fanzinefaves

Olympia, WA
1980 - 1983

Bruce Pavitt's fanzine which morphed into a laudable vinyl empire beginning in the late 80's. The fanzine name was shortened to Sub/Pop starting with issue #3. Issue #4 is a miniature, spiral-bound affair. Three of the later "issues" (#5, #7 and #9) were cassette compilations featuring cover art by Charles Burns. The creativity evident in the fanzines and cassettes makes the success of the Sub Pop label unsurprising. Bazillion Points recently published Sub Pop USA, an anthology of all the issues along with other Pavitt musings.
